Phoenix Police Make Progress: Three Detained in Murder Case Involving Anti-LGBTQ Motive

Three suspects have been apprehended in connection with the murder of 30-year-old Bernardo Pantaleon in Phoenix last month.

Authorities have charged the men with first-degree murder in the case, which Pantaleon’s friends and family believe may have been a targeted attack based on his sexuality.

The murder of Bernardo Pantaleon

On November 25, Pantaleon’s life came to a horrifying end when he was discovered dead and naked in a city park. Court records reveal that he had been fatally shot, and his body was later found mutilated with a knife.

Adding to the brutality of the crime, the suspects reportedly sent photos of Pantaleon’s lifeless body to his family members, deepening the distress for his grieving loved ones.

The suspects, all in their early twenties, were arrested on Saturday and remain in custody. Their charges include first-degree murder, and as of Tuesday, they are being held on bonds ranging from $500,000 to $2 million.

Investigators from the Phoenix Police Department have indicated that the motive behind the crime was not solely based on Pantaleon’s sexuality. Instead, they allege that the suspects, driven by sinister intentions, planned to rob Pantaleon and subsequently carry out the heinous act.

Pantaleon’s friends and family, however, dispute this narrative, asserting that they believe he fell victim to a hate crime due to his sexual orientation and his penchant for wearing glamorous clothing.

The case has drawn attention to the broader issue of violence against individuals within the LGBTQ+ community, highlighting the importance of addressing hate crimes and discrimination.
