Louisiana Woman Sentenced to 25 Years

A Washington County judge handed down the sentence on Tuesday, sending Coleman to 30 years with five years suspended to probation.

Coleman had previously pleaded guilty to a Level 1 felony charge of conspiracy to commit murder in connection with Cairo’s tragic death.

Under Indiana law, she must serve more than 18 years, representing 75% of her sentence.

In a tragic case that captured national attention, Dawn Elaine Coleman, a 41-year-old woman from Shreveport, Louisiana, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for her role in the death of 5-year-old Cairo Ammar Jordan.

The discovery of Cairo’s body, adorned in a suitcase with a distinctive Las Vegas design, led to a comprehensive investigation. Authorities determined that Cairo had passed away about a week or less before being found by a mushroom hunter.

The child was laid to rest in June at a cemetery in Salem, Indiana, following a memorial service where he was referred to as an “unknown angel.”

Investigators found that Dawn Elaine Coleman was acquainted with Dejuane Ludie Anderson, Cairo’s mother. The two women, along with Cairo, had reportedly stayed together in a Louisville home.

Authorities alleged that Coleman played a role in helping Anderson dispose of Cairo’s body in April 2022.

While Coleman has faced sentencing for her involvement, the other suspect in Cairo’s death, Dejuane Ludie Anderson, remains at large.

A felony murder arrest warrant was issued for Anderson in November 2022. Authorities are actively seeking her in connection with the ongoing investigation.

As the legal proceedings unfold, the tragic story of Cairo Ammar Jordan serves as a stark reminder of the vulnerability of innocent lives and the responsibility society bears to protect its youngest members.

The sentencing of Dawn Elaine Coleman reflects the gravity of her involvement, while the search for Dejuane Ludie Anderson continues, underscoring the need for justice in the name of the young victim.
