The Macallan Adami 1926: A Rare Gem

Distilled in 1926 and bottled in 1986 after aging in sherry casks for an impressive 60 years, The Macallan 1926 is an exceptionally rare and limited-edition Scotch whisky.

Only 40 bottles were produced, with a dozen of them featuring labels designed by renowned Italian painter Valerio Adami.

This particular bottle that went under the hammer on Saturday marked a significant moment in the world of spirits, achieving an auction record for both wine and spirits.

The auction, held at Sotheby’s, witnessed a fierce bidding war between enthusiasts both in the room and on the phone, ultimately culminating in the record-breaking sale.

Sotheby’s global head of spirits, Jonny Fowle, emphasized the iconic status of The Macallan 1926, stating that it is the whisky every auctioneer desires to sell and every collector aspires to own.

The Macallan 1926 is not new to creating auction history. In 2019, another bottle from the same cask set a record when it was sold for almost 1.5 million pounds.

This latest sale, however, exceeded all expectations, further cementing the whisky’s position as a symbol of opulence and exclusivity.

What makes this particular bottle even more unique is that it underwent a meticulous reconditioning process by the distillery before hitting the auction block. This included the replacement of the cork and the application of new glue to the corners of the bottle labels, ensuring its pristine condition.
