TANF Benefits in November 2023: When Will Payments Arrive?

TANF is vital for aiding US families facing financial challenges due to unemployment, underemployment, or low incomes.

This state-administered program is designed to offer a safety net, ensuring that eligible families can access much-needed financial support as well as services aimed at enhancing their employability and overall well-being.

TANF Financial Assistance Delivery

Eligibility for TANF is contingent on a set of criteria. Applicants must be residents of the state in which they apply, and they should be either US citizens, legal aliens, or qualified aliens.

Additionally, they must be experiencing unemployment, underemployment, or have a low or very low income. Eligible applicants typically fall into one of the following categories: having a child aged 18 or younger, being pregnant, or being 18 or younger while serving as the head of the household.

Three methods are available for TANF financial assistance delivery: a warrant (paper check), direct deposit, or an Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card. Every household is required to sign a TANF Cash Assistance Payment Selection Form while applying for TANF benefits or changing their payment method, providing flexibility for clients who may need to change their payment method at any moment to better meet their requirements.

For warrant recipients, TANF cash assistance arrives in the form of a paper check, typically on the first working day of the month after authorization and issuance. On the other hand, direct deposit offers the convenience of monthly deposits into the client’s bank account, which usually occurs on the first banking day of the month or within three banking days for daily issuance.

However, the successful completion of a pre-note is necessary before direct deposit can be employed.

In Montana, TANF benefits are distributed via the EBT card system, and these funds become available on the first calendar day of the month after authorization and issuance, even on weekends and holidays.

It’s important for clients to understand that their EBT card comes with certain restrictions to ensure the funds are used appropriately. Sharing the PIN or storing it with the card is discouraged, and any instances of stolen funds should be promptly reported to local law enforcement.
