Texas’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is gearing up to provide much-needed assistance to eligible individuals and families this November.
With payments worth up to $1,751 set to begin in just eight days, the Lone Star State is continuing its commitment to supporting those in need.
Texas SNAP Benefit Distribution
The distribution of SNAP payments in Texas takes place over the first 10 business days of each month. For November, the rollout is scheduled to commence on November 1, just a week away. The exact date when recipients will receive their benefits hinges on their eligibility determination group number.
Eligibility for SNAP benefits in Texas is determined primarily by household income. To qualify, a single-person household cannot have a monthly income exceeding $1,869, while a five-person household’s monthly income limit is set at $4,465. It’s important to note that Texas bases its SNAP payment amounts on household size.
Single households receive $291, while larger eight-member households receive the maximum benefit of $1,751. Families exceeding eight members receive an additional $219 for each extra member, as outlined by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission.

SNAP Benefit Use and Restrictions
For SNAP beneficiaries between the ages of 16 and 59, Texas also has job requirements in place. Participants must either be working, actively looking for work, or participating in a work program that has been approved in order to continue receiving benefits. Without a good cause, leaving a job could cost you your SNAP benefits.
SNAP benefits in Texas are provided through the Lone Star Card, an electronic benefits transfer card. On the designated issuance date, the funds are automatically loaded onto the card, ensuring a streamlined and efficient process for recipients.
SNAP, originally established in 1964 through the Food Stamp Act as part of President Lyndon B. Johnson’s Great Society programs, aims to improve the nutritional well-being of low-income residents by subsidizing their food expenses.
