Biden Seeks $105 Billion Congressional Funding for Israel, Ukraine, Border, and Indo-Pacific

Biden emphasized US leadership’s vital role in global stability amidst Ukraine and Israel’s separate, unpredictable, and violent conflicts.

Biden recognized that, while these conflicts may appear remote, he emphasized their vital role in U.S. national security. He unveiled his intentions to seek substantial military funding, demonstrating his resolve to hold terrorists and dictators accountable.

Biden’s Solidarity Visit to Israel

The proposed funding package, expected to reach $105 billion, includes $60 billion designated for Ukraine, aimed at replenishing weapons stockpiles previously provided by the United States. 

Additionally, $14 billion has been allocated for Israel, $10 billion for humanitarian efforts, $14 billion for addressing issues related to the US-Mexico border and combating fentanyl trafficking, and $7 billion for the Indo-Pacific region, which encompasses critical areas such as Taiwan. This comprehensive proposal aims to unite a coalition in Congress that will support its approval.

President Biden’s address came after his recent visit to Israel, where he expressed solidarity with the nation following the October 7 attack by Hamas and advocated for increased humanitarian assistance to Palestinians.

Israel’s Ongoing Military Operations in Gaza

As Israel continued its military operations in Gaza, President Biden stressed the tragic toll this conflict has taken on civilian lives and expressed his sorrow over the loss of Palestinian lives.

President Biden highlighted his commitment to peace, stating that both Israelis and Palestinians deserve to live in safety, dignity, and peace. 

Biden also expressed concern about the rising tide of antisemitism and Islamophobia in the United States, noting the tragic killing of 6-year-old Palestinian-American boy Wadea Alfayoumi. 

To all Americans impacted by these concerns, President Biden expressed his support and assurance. Following his remarks, President Biden and First Lady Jill Biden sent their sympathies to Wadea’s family and expressed their hopes for the mother’s recovery after being attacked.
