Google’s $399 AI-Powered Chromebook Plus Hits Stores This Weekend

Google is making a significant move in the world of laptops by introducing a new category of Chromebooks called Chromebooks Plus. 

These laptops are designed to be productivity-focused devices, boasting a range of minimum hardware specifications and AI-powered features to enhance the user experience.

The initial lineup of Chromebook Plus devices is set to be manufactured by Acer, Asus, HP, and Lenovo, and they will be priced starting from $399. One of the critical highlights of Chromebook Plus is its commitment to ensuring that these devices can smoothly run productivity software and AI-powered features. 

They feature a dedicated control panel at the bottom of the screen, allowing users to quickly mute/unmute the microphone and turn the camera on/off. Expanding the menu reveals AI-powered features such as improved lighting, noise cancellation, background blur, and live captions. These features aim to enhance the quality of virtual meetings and collaborations.

In addition to video conferencing improvements, Google enables automatic file synchronization for Google Drive, making it convenient for users to access their files even without an internet connection.

Google’s continued integration of AI-powered features into its products is evident in Chromebook Plus. The company is introducing a new writing assistant that can work across various websites, from social networks to YouTube. 

Additionally, users can create AI-generated wallpapers based on a prompt, adding a personalized touch to their device’s aesthetics. Moreover, Google is extending its commitment to software updates for Chromebooks, promising ten years of updates based on the platform release date, even for older Chromebooks that align with the Chromebook Plus profile.

The Chromebook Plus devices from Asus, Acer, HP, and Lenovo are set to hit the market on October 8, offering a variety of form factors to suit different user preferences. With its blend of hardware requirements, AI-powered features, and software partnerships, Google’s Chromebook Plus represents a notable advancement in Chromebooks, promising an enhanced user experience for both productivity and entertainment.
