Amanda Smith, a 41-year-old woman from Wayne County, finds herself in a web of criminal charges that span various drug-related offenses and a previous robbery case.
According to Wayne County court records reviewed by Law&Crime, Smith stands accused of dealing methamphetamine, possession with intent to distribute fentanyl, dealing cocaine, and dealing a Schedule III controlled substance.
Indiana Smith’s Suspected Drug Buyer Encounter
Her legal woes began earlier this summer when she was charged with robbing a woman after a violent altercation during a meeting where the victim intended to purchase supplemental nutrition assistance funds.
However, Smith’s troubles escalated on September 4 when she was arrested again following an alleged interaction with potential drug buyers at a Phillips 66 filling station in Richmond, a small city on Ohio’s eastern border.
Wayne County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Ryan Riggs spotted Smith talking to suspected drug users and decided to follow her car after she failed to use a turn signal. During a subsequent traffic stop, a police dog named Copper detected the presence of drugs in the car or on Smith. What followed was a bizarre turn of events.

Feigned Heart Attack and Resistance
Smith allegedly feigned a heart attack, forbidding Richmond EMS from conducting electronic tests or assessing her condition.
Authorities, nevertheless, took her to the hospital, where Smith continued to resist cooperation by refusing to remove her clothes. It was evident to law enforcement that she was attempting to conceal drugs while waiting for an opportunity to dispose of the evidence.
Ultimately, Smith conceded to having concealed fentanyl in her underwear, but nurses at the hospital suspected more. They reported finding a plastic sandwich bag hidden inside her.
Smith initially denied these allegations but later admitted to concealing drugs and removing an avocado-size plastic sandwich bag from her pelvic area. Police conducted tests on the contents and discovered methamphetamine, cocaine, fentanyl, and another powder, all individually wrapped in the bag.
A search of Smith’s vehicle yielded even more prescription drugs, such as gabapentin, naloxone, and buprenorphine, along with a ledger detailing customer information, weights, and drug types.
Smith now faces a complex legal battle, with several charges related to drug possession and distribution. She was released from the Wayne County Jail after posting a $4,500 bond but is scheduled to appear in court on September 20 for the drug charges.
Additionally, a bond revocation hearing related to her earlier robbery charges has been set for October 18. Authorities have yet to provide further details on the ongoing investigation.
