A retired doctor from Colorado, Scott Burke, found himself in legal trouble after being apprehended on his yacht, the Jess Conn, in Nantucket Harbor.
The 69-year-old, residing in Englewood, was arrested following a distress call from a woman who feared for her safety on his 82-foot vessel. The subsequent police investigation uncovered a troubling cache of illegal items.
Colorado Arrest and Shocking Discoveries
On the day of his arrest, police officers discovered not only the distressed woman but also a shocking stash of contraband, including cocaine, ketamine, two handguns, and ammunition. In an even more shocking twist, several prostitutes were also found on board, according to the Nantucket Current.
Burke, who initially pleaded not guilty to charges of gun possession and drug-related offenses during his detention hearing in Plymouth District Court, faced a bail set at $200,000. It remains unclear whether he has managed to post bail at this time.
When confronted by law enforcement, Burke claimed he possessed licenses for the firearms, a .380 pistol, and a 9mm pistol. However, authorities discovered that these licenses had expired in the previous year and were issued in Florida, not Massachusetts.

The Retired Doctor’s Troubling Situation
In total, the police confiscated 43 grams of cocaine and 14 grams of ketamine, a powerful horse tranquilizer, raising grave concerns about the safety of those on board the yacht.
Burke’s background reveals a successful medical career. He was first licensed to practice medicine in Colorado back in 1981, with his license expiring in 2021. Over the years, he ran a spine and rehabilitation clinic and founded a medical insurance company around two decades ago.
The Jess Conn, his 2021 Nordhvn yacht, arrived in Nantucket from Newport on August 23 and is registered in the Cayman Islands. Additionally, Burke maintains a residence in the Florida Keys.
As this case unfolds, it has certainly sent shockwaves through both the local community and the medical field, leaving many wondering how a retired doctor found himself in such a precarious situation on his luxury yacht.
