A shocking turn of events unfolded in Garland, Texas, last week when a Texas teenager initially the subject of an AMBER Alert became a prime suspect facing capital murder charges.
Police records and a press statement from the Garland Police Department shed light on the tragic incident.
Tragic Discovery in Garland, Texas
The grim discovery occurred when the police found the lifeless body of 21-year-old Arturo Peña inside a car in Garland, Texas, two days after he was reported missing. The authorities’ statement, posted on Facebook, revealed that the police responded to a report of a man passed out in a vehicle, only to determine that Peña had been fatally shot.
Following their investigation, the police identified 17-year-old Natalie Navarro as one of the two suspects involved in the shooting.
Navarro was taken into custody and is now being held at the Webb County Prison. She is still awaiting transport to the Dallas County Prison, where formal charges will be brought. According to Sergeant Richard Maldonado, this procedure might take up to 15 days.

Navarro’s Capital Murder Charges
Before her arrest, an AMBER Alert had been issued by the Dallas Police, indicating that Navarro was believed to be in grave danger. Fortunately, law enforcement located her and ensured her safety.
Yordy Martinez, another individual initially linked to the AMBER Alert, is also facing an arrest warrant as a “person of interest” in Peña’s tragic death. However, his whereabouts remain unknown.
Navarro now faces capital murder charges, with a million-dollar bond according to jail records.
In Texas, this charge can result in life imprisonment without parole or even the death penalty. Murder, on the other hand, carries a potential sentence of life imprisonment with the possibility of parole.
As of now, Navarro has not entered a plea, and it remains uncertain whether she has retained an attorney. Meanwhile, a GoFundMe campaign set up by Veronica Lopez, who identifies as Peña’s wife, seeks support for the grieving family.
While the police have not disclosed the date of Peña’s death in their statements, Lopez mentioned in the fundraiser that he passed away on August 26, three days before law enforcement discovered his body.
