Mercedes-Benz Group AG introduced an electric vehicle having a longer range beyond any Tesla Inc. model currently on the market, stepping up its challenge to Elon Musk.
The business unveiled a near-production model of its CLA car capable of traveling over 750 kilometers (466 miles) on just one charge, outperforming Tesla’s updated Model 3.
Mercedes’ first vehicle based on its forthcoming EV underpinnings, with a battery pack capable of adding 400 kilometers of range in just fifteen minutes of charging.
Poor Sales in China Makes Mercedes Under Pressure
Mercedes-Benz is under pressure to expand its selection after poor sales in China caused the corporation to lower pricing on several of its electrified vehicles.
BMW AG introduced its own next-generation EV on Saturday, a stylish coupe with a digital display projected across the entire width of the windscreen. Both the BMW prototype as well as Mercedes’ future EV are expected to enter production around the middle of the decade.
Mercedes is attempting to counter Tesla and boost sales in China, where buyers are increasingly turning to homegrown companies such as BYD Co. and Nio Inc., which have proven to be more adept at producing EVs with software tailored to local tastes.
The corporation intends to construct up eight battery plants with partners in order to sell only EVs whenever practicable by the end of this decade.

CLA Concept Aims to Attract Younger Customers
The bent roof line of the brand’s EQS and EQE sedans is absent from the CLA concept. Although their low-slung roof design renders them more aerodynamic, enhancing range, it also lowers headroom in the rear-seat compartment.
