This week, Robert J. O’Neill, a former Navy SEAL who garnered notoriety for claiming responsibility for the death of Osama bin Laden, was apprehended in Texas and found himself in legal difficulty.

However, according to The Dallas Morning News, only the assault allegation was listed in the detention records. Frisco police have opted to withhold further information regarding the arrest.

O’Neill was promptly released after posting a $3,500 bond the same day. He allegedly visited Frisco to record a podcast at a local cigar lounge.

Despite his notoriety, O’Neill refused to comment to The Post about the incident.

In 2011, the former member of SEAL Team 6, who claimed responsibility for unleashing the bullets that led to the demise of Osama bin Laden, gained significant public attention.

This event was detailed in O’Neill’s 2017 autobiography, ‘The Operator.’ Notably, the United States government has neither affirmed nor denied his account of the operation.

This recent detention is not the first time O’Neill has encountered controversy.  He made headlines in 2020 for being prohibited from Delta Airlines for refusing to comply with mask-wearing regulations.

In addition, he was charged with intoxicated driving in Montana in 2016, but the charges were subsequently withdrawn, according to CBS News.

This week, Robert J. O’Neill, a former Navy SEAL who garnered notoriety for claiming responsibility for the death of Osama bin Laden, was apprehended in Texas and found himself in legal difficulty.

In addition to his military service, O’Neill has engaged in various endeavors. Armed Forces Brewing Co., a Virginia-based microbrewery, emerged amid the controversy surrounding Bud Light’s sponsorship of the LGBTQ influencer Dylan Mulvaney.

In addition, O’Neill has expanded his responsibilities to include podcaster and military affairs commentator. His opinions have occasionally sparked controversy, such as in May, when he expressed anger over the US Navy’s use of a transgender queen in a recruitment campaign.

On Twitter, he criticized the decision, stating, “I can’t believe [he] fought for this bulls**t,” implying that China is a more significant threat to the United States.

O’Neill’s remarks were directed at Yeoman 2nd Class Joshua Kelley, also known as Harpy Daniels, who declared on TikTok that she would be the Navy’s first ‘digital ambassador.’

Kelley was tasked with sharing her journey from performing on board since 2018 to becoming an ‘advocate’ for those who ‘were subjugated for years in the service.’

Later, a Navy spokesperson verified that the digital ambassador program was a pilot that ended in March 2023. Kelley’s program ran from October 2022 to March 2023 and intended to ‘explore the digital environment in order to reach a broad range of potential candidates’ for military recruitment.

The recent arrest of O’Neill in Texas further illustrates the complex and multifaceted personality of a former Navy SEAL who, since claiming to have killed Osama bin Laden, has been praised and criticized for his outspoken views and actions.
