According to a draft press statement obtained by The Hill, the hardline conservative House Freedom Caucus has stated that it will oppose any temporary government funding bill that excludes policy demands pertaining to the border, the Department of Justice, and woke practices at the Pentagon.
After Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) informed House GOP members last week that he plans to move a short-term bill to finance the government until the end of the fiscal year on September 30 and avoid a government shutdown, the official stance against a clean continuing resolution was announced.
The Freedom Caucus and Federal Budgets
Demands for a continuing resolution from the Freedom Caucus put pressure on House GOP leaders, who can afford to lose just a few votes in their narrow majority before needing Democratic help to approve any initiatives.
The House Freedom Caucus has about 30 Republicans, which is more than enough to defeat any party-line legislation.
The draft release stated that the Freedom Caucus will not support any legislation that allows Democrats to continue their outrageous COVID-era spending while at the same time failing to hold the Biden Administration accountable and execute its most fundamental duties.
The December 2022 lame-duck omnibus spending package, which we all fiercely opposed just seven months prior, substantially boosted the present FY 2023 spending level, which would be confirmed by a continuing resolution.

The National Security Priorities
The border, the militarization of the Department of Justice and FBI, and woke practices in the military, according to the group, are the three policy areas that its members will oppose any spending measure that does not address.
In order to curb the unimpeded flow of illegal immigrants, fight the evils of human trafficking, and stop the pouring of lethal fentanyl into our communities, the Freedom Caucus wants any stopgap to include the ‘Secure the Border Act of 2023’ enacted by the House.
