Russian Military Unleashes Missiles and Drones on Ukraine

Moscow kept its word to react to an assault on a Russian tanker by unleashing a missile and drone blitz over sections of Ukraine on Sunday, according to authorities in Kiev.

Separately, a drone strike near the Russian capital was thwarted, leading to a temporary flight suspension at Moscow’s second-largest airport early on Sunday.

Drones and Missiles over Caspian Sea

According to the air force of Ukraine, Russian aircraft fired 70 drones and missiles, including Shaheds built in Iran, over the Caspian Sea.

According to Serhiy Tyurin, the deputy commander of the Khmelnytsky region military administration of Ukraine, three waves of missiles struck the Starokostiantyniv area, causing damage to a number of structures and starting a fire at a warehouse. 

Officials speculated that the airstrip in the city may have been the target of the attack. The offices of aviation engine maker Motor Sich in the Zaporizhzhya area, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, were also attacked.

The Ukrainian drone strike on a Russian tanker in the Black Sea close to Crimea late Friday led to the Russian barrage. A major Russian port was also attacked earlier in the day by drones from Ukraine.

The Kerch Strait assault on a civilian vessel by what she described as a Ukrainian terrorist group was denounced by Maria Zakharova, a spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry.

Such heinous acts cannot be justified, and their perpetrators and authors will unavoidably face punishment, Zakharova said in a message on the messaging service Telegram.

The tanker carrying gasoline for Russian soldiers was hit by a Ukrainian drone that was loaded with 992 pounds of explosives, a security service official from Ukraine confirmed to the Associated Press. 

The tanker’s engine room was damaged by the drone, but none of the 11 crew members were wounded, the Federal Agency for Marine and River Transport of Russia said in a Telegram post.
