On Thursday, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre firmly stated that President Joe Biden has no intention of pardoning his son.

Hunter is currently confronted with charges related to felony gun possession and tax misdemeanors.

White House’s Stance on Hunter Biden’s Legal Issues

During the briefing, Jean-Pierre declined to confirm if the President had spoken to his son after a plea deal fell apart in federal court on Wednesday. She reiterated that this is a personal matter for Hunter Biden and emphasized that the Department of Justice has independently handled the investigation, led by a prosecutor appointed during the Trump administration. Jean-Pierre refrained from offering further comments beyond what was stated previously.

Last month, after the announcement of charges against Hunter Biden, White House spokesman Ian Sams made a statement expressing the President and First Lady’s love and support for their son as he works on rebuilding his life.

The White House has generally avoided commenting on the legal issues concerning the President’s son and directed inquiries to the Department of Justice and Hunter Biden’s personal legal team.

On Thursday, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre firmly stated that President Joe Biden has no intention of pardoning his son.

Hunter Biden had been expected to plead guilty to two tax charges, with prosecutors recommending probation as part of the deal. However, the plea deal unraveled, and a revised agreement during the hearing was not accepted by the judge.

The investigation into Hunter Biden’s financial affairs began in 2018 under the Trump-era Justice Department, gradually expanding to examine potential violations of money laundering and foreign lobbying laws related to his overseas business dealings. Federal investigators also looked into his unpaid taxes and extravagant spending, which occurred during a period of battling addiction.

US attorney David Weiss has been leading the investigation since his appointment by former President Donald Trump, and President Joe Biden retained him to continue handling the probe.

There is no public evidence of any attempt by Joe Biden or the White House to intervene in the investigation, and the White House has consistently stressed that they have not been involved in the process.

Throughout the investigation, Hunter Biden has fully paid his federal tax bill, including interest and penalties, according to his lawyers’ previous statements.

House Republicans have been focusing on Hunter Biden’s finances as part of their broader oversight probes into the Biden family. They are seeking testimony from Weiss regarding the criminal probe, and some members of the House GOP are even discussing the possibility of impeaching Attorney General Merrick Garland.
