North Korea Responds with Missile Launches as US Submarine Arrives in South Korea

North Korea has launched two ballistic missiles in what is being seen as a provocative move shortly after a United States submarine arrived in South Korean waters.

The missile launch has raised tensions in the region and elicited international concern over the North’s military activities.

Missile Launch from North Korea’s East Coast

The firing of the missiles took place from North Korea’s east coast and flew toward the Sea of Japan and the Yellow Sea, covering a considerable distance. The act comes just days after a U.S. Navy submarine docked at the South Korean port of Busan, as part of routine military exercises and to demonstrate the U.S.’s commitment to its regional allies.

The launch of the missiles has drawn swift responses from South Korea and the international community. South Korean President, Moon Jae-in, has called for an emergency meeting of the National Security Council to assess the situation and consider appropriate measures in response to North Korea’s actions.

The United States, along with Japan, has condemned the missile launches, viewing them as a direct challenge to regional stability and a breach of international agreements. The Pentagon has reaffirmed its commitment to the defense of South Korea and stated that the presence of the U.S. submarine was part of routine military operations.
