In a recently given to Congress secret report, the US Navy claims that it has reiterated the need for at least 31 big amphibious warships in the future.
The service’s announcement earlier this year that it wanted to put a strategic pause on purchasing new amphibious ships in particular sparked a public argument with the US Marine Corps and opposition from politicians.

There are still questions about its current estimate, particularly given long-standing worries about US shipbuilding capability, which also lays out plans for having a total fleet consisting of 381 ships and submarines.

The analytics-based research found that in order to satisfy future campaigning and warfighting goals, a future battle force objective of 381 ships is needed, the Navy said USNI News in a statement.
This report assists the 2022 National Defense Strategy and will provide guidance for upcoming budget requests and force structure needs.

The Definition Of Battle Force For The Navy
The 2023 BFSAR emphasizes the necessity of a bigger, stronger, and more evenly distributed naval force.
The word battle force is used by the Navy to refer to its fleets of huge auxiliaries, submarines, and major surface warships.
The necessity for a fighting force with a total of 373 vessels was outlined in the 2022 version of this report to Congress, which was similarly classified.
Currently, the service anticipates that its fighting force will consist of 293 ships, including 29 amphibious warfare ships, in the 2024 fiscal year.
