AmeriCorps reported on Friday that it has recovered a record $84 million in unclaimed credits, deductions, and tax advantages for low-income Americans during the 2023 tax season.
According to a release, President Bill Clinton’s Foundation for Volunteerism and national service helped over 113,000 taxpayers in more than 130 locations.
Empowering Low-Income Taxpayers To Access Their Benefits
Every year, AmeriCorps collaborates with neighborhood nonprofits to guarantee that low-income taxpayers receive all tax benefits and credits for which they are qualified.
According to AmeriCorps spokesman Jonah Bryson, the group collected nearly $14 million for taxpayers last year.
More volunteers being able to assist in more cities, at more locations, and working with more charitable groups contributed to the record recovery.

According to a nonprofit leader, the help was very needed and appreciated. According to Nathan Davis, senior director of Mile High United Way, 13 of the planned preparation sites for 2023 in Colorado wouldn’t have been possible without the help of our AmeriCorps relationship.

AmeriCorps Seniors Program Supports Low-Income Taxpayers
According to Davis, having the extra assistance allowed his team to operate at more consistent hours at their sites, which increased the number of clients they could assist.
Through its AmeriCorps Seniors program, which enables Americans 55 and older to volunteer in their local communities, the organization helped low-income taxpayer assistance organizations in addition to working with young AmeriCorps volunteers.
A total of 1,890 volunteers participated in the endeavor to offer tax preparation services, according to Atalaya Sergi, the director of the AmeriCorps Seniors program. In 2022 tax returns, the volunteers generated more than $69 million, valuing each AmeriCorps Seniors volunteer at $36,721.
