Residents of Maricopa County are preparing for an extended period of sweltering heat as a warning of excessive heat has been issued by meteorological authorities.

People and communities need to take proactive actions to ensure their safety and well-being as temperatures reach unsafe levels.

Stay Hydrated and Stay Safe

Due to the ongoing heat wave in the area, the National Weather Service (NWS) has extended the excessive heat warning for Maricopa County. 

In particular, for vulnerable groups including the elderly, children, and people with pre-existing medical disorders, the warning underlines the potential health hazards linked to extended exposure to high temperatures.

Given that the area will soon experience intense heat, the prolonged warning highlights the need for increased awareness and readiness.

Heat exhaustion, heat stroke, and dehydration are just a few of the serious health hazards that excessive heat can cause. 

The early warning signals of heat-related disorders, such as lightheadedness, nausea, a rapid heartbeat, and profuse perspiration, must be recognized.

Even if you don’t feel thirsty, keep up your daily water intake. Dehydration can be exacerbated by alcoholic beverages and excessive coffee.

Avoid being outside during the warmest parts of the day and take refuge inside of conditioned areas.

Consider visiting cooling centers or public facilities that offer relief from the heat if your home does not have air conditioning.
