Seamless Transition: Mozilla Streamlines Pocket User Migration to Firefox Accounts

Pocket users have been able to avoid creating a Mozilla Firefox account for years despite the service’s presence on the browser, but this will soon change.

Commencing from July 11, 2023, all Pocket users will receive a prompt to establish a Mozilla Firefox account, which will become compulsory by August 15, 2023.

Embracing a more secure browsing experience with Mozilla

However, as indicated in the official blog post, this change will only affect the login process and will have no impact on your saved items. Subscribers of Pocket Premium will not experience any changes to their subscriptions.

Mozilla has explained that this transition aims to ensure that all users can benefit from Mozilla’s security features, such as two-factor authentication and adherence to Mozilla’s privacy policy.

Furthermore, if you currently log in using your Apple ID or Google login, not only will you receive these advantages, but your account will also be automatically migrated on July 11.

Pocket users have been able to avoid creating a Mozilla Firefox account for years despite the service’s presence on the browser, but this will soon change.

The transition to Mozilla’s apps will not disrupt their functionality, and Pocket will remain accessible through other web browsers, including the Pocket browser extension. In essence, you will enjoy a more secure browsing experience while retaining the full range of services free of charge.

Below are the complete instructions for converting your Pocket account into a Mozilla Firefox account:

From July 11, 2023, if you are currently signed in to Pocket, all you need to do is log out in order to be directed to the Pocket Log In page.

Enter your email address and click Next. If you haven’t set up your Firefox account yet, you will receive instructions to do so. Please refer to the instructions below for Pocket users who sign in with an Apple ID or Google.

Choose the option “Upgrade my account” to continue. (Please note that selecting “I’m not ready” will result in a prompt to transition your account during your next login.)

Create an account with Firefox or sign in.

You will then be redirected to the content you have saved in Pocket.

According to Android Police, Mozilla had previously requested users to make this transition and even set the mandatory conversion date for June 30, 2022.

However, it appears that the company has now decided to approach this matter more seriously.
