Economic Relief Redux: States Contemplating Additional Stimulus Checks

Over the duration of the pandemic, American citizens received multiple economic stimulus check payments.

It appears that the federal government is no longer seeking to send out. Yet, a number of states plan to distribute stimulus money to their populations in 2023.

Stimulus Checks Provide Relief Amidst Pandemic Uncertainty 

The states that are debating adding more stimulus checks are listed below. Find out if your state is included in the list and whether you are eligible for stimulus funding.

California

Depending on your income, filing status, and if you have dependents, the estimated amount ranges from $200 to $1,050. For the requirements, contact the California Franchise Tax Board.

Idaho

Estimated Amount: The greater of either ($75 per family member) or ($12%) of the tax obligation prior to credits, “other” taxes, and payments for the first year’s rebate. equal to 10% of the 2020 tax liability before credits, additional taxes, payments, and gifts, whichever is greater: (1) $600 for married couples filing a joint return, (2) $300 for everyone else, or (3) 10% of the 2019 tax liability.

Maine

On state tax returns filed in 2021, the estimated amount is $450 for single filers and $900 for joint filers.

New Jersey

Expected Amount: Variable based on residents’ 2019 income and whether they were homeowners or renters.

Residents of New Jersey who owned houses in 2019 and have a combined income of $150,000 or less will get rebates of $1,500 through the ANCHOR Tax Relief Program in 2023. 

Homeowners with family incomes between $150,001 and $250,000 can anticipate $1,000 in payments. Renters in New Jersey who filed 2019 taxes and had income of at least $150,000 might expect a $450 reimbursement.

New Mexico

Expected First Rebate Amount: $250 for single residents and $500 for married couples filing separate 2021 tax returns who are joint filers, head of household, or surviving spouses who have 2021 incomes under $150,000.

Pennsylvania

Expected Amount: Up to $975 for certain senior individuals, $500 or $650 for qualified renters, and $250 to $650 for qualified homeowners.

You might be eligible to apply for a stimulus payment under the Property Tax/Rent Rebate program if you are a Pennsylvania resident at least 65 years old, a widow(er) at least 50, or a person with a disability at least 18 years old.

For homeowners, the annual income cap is $35,000, whereas for renters it is only $15,000.

South Carolina

Expected Amount: Up to $800 in rebates, depending on how you filed your South Carolina income tax return for the year 2021.
