According to a 212-page transcript of his interview, a former IRS employee told the House Ways and Means Committee that United States Attorney David Weiss requested permission to charge Hunter Biden in two federal districts.
Offenses that were more serious than the tax-related misdemeanors the president’s son agreed to plead guilty to this week.
Hunter Biden Case Disputes And Testimonials
Gary Shapley, a whistleblower, claims Attorney General Merrick Garland lied to Congress when he said in prior testimony that Weiss, a Delaware-based attorney, had the power to file charges in other states, including California and Washington, DC.
According to Shapley, the US attorneys there, who were chosen by President Joe Biden, would not file charges in certain districts. Shapley’s allegations were refuted by the Justice Department.
As the Attorney General and United States Attorney David Weiss have both stated, United States Attorney Weiss has full control over this case and is responsible for determining if, where, and when to press charges.
According to Wyn Hornbuckle, the deputy director of the Justice Department Office of Public Affairs, he doesn’t require any further authorization to do so.
Shapley testified before the committee that while working as an IRS inspector, he was able to collect communications that Hunter Biden sent using the WhatsApp app, including one that he read and demanded money from Henry Zhao, a Chinese businessman.
