The Pentagon revealed that it had massively inflated the worth of the weaponry it had given to Ukraine over the previous two years by a stunning $6.2 billion.
The Military initially acknowledged an accounting error of at least $3 billion, or roughly half the latest amount, just four weeks prior to this.
Pentagon Accounting Error
The Department of Defense has also come under pressure from Congress members to prevent fraud or the misappropriation of funds.
A thorough investigation into the accounting issue, according to Pentagon spokesperson Sabrina Singh, revealed that the military services had used replacement costs rather than the book value of the equipment they had taken from American stocks and sent to Ukraine.
The cost of each new aid program was overestimated due to this inaccuracy, which cost $3.6 billion in the current fiscal year and $2.6 billion in the 2022 fiscal year, which concluded on September 30.
According to Singh, the inaccuracy had no effect on how Ukraine was supported.

Error Raises Concerns Over Support For Ukraine Amid Russia-Ukraine Conflict
But, several Republican senators thought the $3 billion accounting blunder may have decreased the level of support for Ukraine before the counteroffensive when the Pentagon made the miscalculation public in May.
Although President Biden has frequently stated that the United States will continue to support Ukraine as long as necessary, support has been dwindling, especially among Republicans. Ukraine has been pleading for greater assistance.
Concerns have been expressed about the expenses and protracted nature of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, and a recent Pew Research Center poll found that 44% of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents think the United States is providing excessive aid to Ukraine.
The adjustment, however, frees up additional monies in the department’s coffers for additional assistance, on top of the $34 billion in security assistance that the United States has already given to Ukraine since 2021.
