Meta’s Latest Updates: Enhanced Visuals, Expanded Content, Seamless Communication, and Improved Browsing in VR

Mark Zuckerberg unveiled the Meta’s Quest 3 VR headset earlier this month, offering enhanced capabilities for Quest 2 upgraders.

However, the more efficient Quest 3 will not be available until September. In the meantime, Meta has promised a future update that will enhance the performance of both the Quest 2 and Quest Pro models and provide long-term hardware support.

Optimizing Games and Apps with Meta’s Performance Upgrades

Meta is currently implementing these changes through the v55 update. The Quest 2 will receive a 19 percent increase in GPU speed, while Quest Pro owners will experience an 11 percent improvement. Additionally, both VR headsets will see up to a 26 percent boost in CPU power, as confirmed by Meta.

These performance upgrades aim to deliver smoother gameplay and a more responsive user interface. Meta also plans to introduce Dynamic Resolution Scaling, allowing applications to utilize higher pixel density while maintaining consistent frame rates.

Furthermore, developers will have the opportunity to optimize their games and apps to leverage performance enhancements.

Meta’s blog post showcases a sample video of The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners, exhibiting improved resolution resulting from the headset’s performance updates.

The v55 update introduces new software experiences as well. The Explore tab has expanded to include Meta’s media content, such as short-form videos, along with content from Facebook, Instagram, and Reels.

Meta Horizon Worlds also provides new places to visit and new avatar clothes in cyberspace. The Explore functionality is now rolling out to users and will be made available over time.

In the previous version (v54) of the Meta Quest software, the company introduced notifications from non-VR apps, including Messenger. With the v55 update, Meta is adding a standalone Messenger app in VR, enabling users to communicate with friends without removing their headsets or using their smartphones.

Lastly, the Meta Quest Browser will now support multi-touch gestures, allowing users to zoom in and out and interact with elements using hand gestures in addition to the Touch controllers. This feature provides a glimpse of the hand controls available in a forthcoming headset.
