Cisco AI Networking Chip Offensive: A New Competitor for Broadcom and Marvell Emerges

By introducing its new networking chips created especially for artificial intelligence (AI) supercomputers on June 20, Cisco Systems made a big advancement in the technology sector.

With this announcement, Cisco entered the AI chip industry as a direct rival to well-known firms like Broadcom and Marvell Technology.

Cisco Launches Next-Generation Networking Chips

Five of the six major cloud providers have already started testing the networking chips, which are part of Cisco’s SiliconOne family.

The major participants in the cloud computing business, such as Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud, are probably among them, according to Bofa Global Research, even though Cisco withheld the names of these cloud providers.

The need for effective communication between individual chips has been highlighted by the quick development and rising demand for AI applications, including famous instances like ChatGPT. 

A high-speed network of specialized chips is necessary for ChatGPT’s graphics processing units (GPUs) to complete its sophisticated language processing responsibilities.

The new chips from Cisco are designed to meet this demand for faster chip connectivity.

Since it is a large manufacturer of networking hardware, particularly ethernet switches, It is well-known for interconnecting different devices in local area networks.

Together with the networking chips, their G200 and G202 current generation of ethernet switches have been presented.

These switches provide twice the performance of their previous generation and can link up to 32,000 GPUs.

The new G200 and G202 chips will be the most potent net Set featured image working chips on the market, according to Rakesh Chopra, a Cisco colleague, and former principal engineer, who voiced his trust in them. 

He said they will be used to power AI and machine learning workloads.

Cisco aspires to maintain its position as a pioneer in networking solutions for AI-driven environments with improved capabilities and power efficiency.
