Children, expecting moms, parents, retirees, and people with disabilities are just a few of the millions of Americans who can receive Medicaid for health insurance.
All low-income adults who fall below a specified income threshold are covered by the program in various states.
Medicaid Eligibility Based On FPL Standards
The Federal Poverty Level (FPL) standards for the current year are used to determine Medicaid eligibility.
For persons aged 19 to 64 who are not blind or disabled, the monthly income cap is 138% of the federal poverty level (FPL).
For children under the age of 19, the monthly income cap is 317% of the FPL. For some households, there is a monthly fee dependent on your income.
There is no charge for households that earn up to 195% FPL. There are no copays for prescription drugs.
Medicaid for the Aged, Blind, and Disabled (MABD) eligibility is determined by both income and available resources.
If you live outside of Chittenden County in 2023, the maximum monthly income for adults who are blind, crippled, or older than 65 is $1,258.
If you reside in Chittenden County, it is $1,358. Adults who are blind, crippled, or older than 65 can take a resource test.

Earned And Unearned Paychecks, Benefits, And Pensions
A paycheck from your present employer is an example of something you have earned. The amount of your earned income that the state will consider is determined by a formula.
It only considers roughly half of your take-home pay as countable income, so it does not account for every dollar you make.
Pensions, Veterans’ benefits, and Social Security benefits are all seen as unearned. A large portion of that sum will be tallied as countable income.
