Ukraine Makes Advances in the South, Declare Military Chiefs

Ukraine military officials have reported progress in the south as part of a counteroffensive against Russian occupation forces.

The latest report on the ongoing counter-offensive, which includes details of determined resistance by Russian troops in the eastern region, was released in conjunction with President Volodymyr Zelenskiy highlighting the importance of the counter-offensive’s progress.

Ukraine Troops Succeed Tactically In Southern Sectors

In his nightly video message, Zelenskiy stressed the immense importance of every soldier, each step forward, and every meter of Ukrainian territory liberated from the enemy.

It should be noted that the information regarding the situation on the battlefield could not be independently verified by the source. Russia has not officially acknowledged Ukraine’s initial advancements in the counteroffensive and has claimed to have inflicted significant losses on Kyiv’s forces within the past 24 hours.

Deputy Ukrainian Defense Minister Hanna Maliar communicated through the Telegram messaging app, disclosing that the troops were actively engaged in coordinated advances on multiple fronts. She reported, “We have achieved tactical successes in nearly all sectors where our units have launched attacks in the south. Our progress is steady, with the advancement of up to 2 km (1.3 miles) in each direction.”

Ukraine military officials have reported progress in the south as part of a counteroffensive against Russian occupation forces.

Maliar provided an update on the situation in eastern Ukraine, stating that Russian forces were attempting to dislodge Ukrainian troops from their established positions. Ukrainian forces near the devastated city of Bakhmut, which was captured by Russia last month, were actively working to push Russian forces away from the outskirts of the town.

Colonel General Syrskyi, responsible for Ukrainian ground forces, previously described the tense situation in the eastern region. He mentioned that Russia had deployed its elite divisions to the Bakhmut sector, receiving support from artillery and aircraft.

In response, Syrskyi affirmed that Ukrainian forces were carrying out offensive actions in various directions, aiming to gradually force the enemy out of Bakhmut’s outskirts. However, the enemy units were fiercely resisting these efforts.

Bakhmut has experienced some of the most intense fightings since Russia’s invasion in February 2022. Last week, the Ukrainian military announced their initiation of a pushback against Russian forces near Bakhmut.

On Thursday, Kyiv announced that they had recaptured around 100 square kilometers (38 square miles) of territory within slightly over a week of the counter-offensive.

Brigadier General Tarnavskyi, commander of Ukrainian troops in the southern Tavriia sector, reported a high level of combat activity in the past 24 hours. There were 36 combat engagements and 578 attacks in the sector. In his Telegram message, he highlighted that the enemy had suffered significant losses in terms of killed and wounded, surpassing the casualties of four companies.
