Former President Trump continues to dominate the crowded GOP primary despite being accused on federal charges in a case involving secret data.
According to an exclusive Harvard CAPS-Harris Poll survey released by The Hill on Friday, Republican voters showed strong support for former President Trump in the GOP primary.
Trump Maintains Strong Lead in GOP Primary
Out of the respondents, 59 percent said they would vote for Trump if the primary were held today, while 14 percent favored Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. Former Vice President Pence received support from 8 percent of GOP voters, and 4 percent expressed backing for former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley.
The survey took place shortly after the public announcement of the federal indictment against former President Trump.
Mark Penn, co-director of the Harvard CAPS-Harris Poll survey, noted that despite the indictment, Trump’s support in the GOP primary remained unaffected, while DeSantis had ground to make up due to the entry of numerous new candidates.

Campaign Activities Amidst Miami Arraignment
Trump, despite his arraignment in a federal courthouse in Miami, continued to engage in campaign activities. He made a visit to a popular Cuban restaurant in Little Havana before returning to Bedminster, N.J., to address his supporters and meet with donors.
Trump’s campaign also reported raising over $6 million since news of the indictment.
The Harvard CAPS-Harris Poll survey, which took place from June 14 to June 15, spanned two days and collected data from a diverse cohort of 2,090 registered voters.
The substantial size of this sample was intended to encompass a broad spectrum of perspectives within the population. This survey was a collaborative undertaking involving the esteemed Center for American Political Studies at Harvard University and the reputable Harris Poll, leveraging their respective expertise in political analysis and data collection.
To conduct the survey, a carefully selected online sample was drawn from the Harris Panel, a group of individuals who have voluntarily agreed to participate in various research studies.
Rigorous measures were taken to ensure that this sample accurately represented the known demographics of the larger population. By employing a weighting process, the survey aimed to achieve a balance in responses that would better reflect the overall voter landscape.
