Los Angeles County’s Stimulus Check Program: Apply Now for $1,000 Monthly Payments

Los Angeles County’s Guaranteed Stimulus Check Income Program will accept applications in 11 days, offering a monthly payment of $1,000 for 2 years.

The program, named Breathe, aims to provide financial assistance to 200 individuals who were formerly in foster care, granting them monthly payments over a period of two years. The application process will commence on June 20 and conclude on July 3 at 11:59 p.m.

Expansion of the Stimulus Check Program

Last year, the program chose 1,000 participants to receive $1,000 per month for a three-year period. In its current form, the Stimulus Check program will expand to include 200 more recipients who will receive the same monthly amount for a duration of two years. This update was provided by a representative from Los Angeles County.

The initial 1,000 recipients were chosen randomly from a pool of eligible candidates.

Prospective applicants must meet certain criteria, including being at least 21 years old and not turning 24 before September 1. They must have also been former foster youth under the care of the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Families, starting from their 18th birthday.

Further requirements for applicants include having a household income at or below 100% of the area median income for single-person households or 120% of the area median income for households consisting of two or more individuals.

They should have experienced adverse effects due to the COVID-19 pandemic and should not be currently enrolled in another guaranteed income program.

A randomized control study, led by the University of Pennsylvania and other research partners, will be conducted to assess the program’s outcomes.

Participation in the study is not mandatory to receive the monthly payments; however, participants who opt in will be periodically requested to provide information regarding various aspects of their overall health and well-being. A $30 gift card will be provided for each survey completed.

Additionally, a control group of 2,000 applicants was randomly selected to participate in the study.

While the control group will not receive the monthly $1,000 payments, they will be asked to complete periodic surveys and interviews and will be compensated with a $30 gift card for each survey completed.
