In over a week, Massachusetts will begin collecting applications for a guaranteed income program that will provide monthly distributions of $500 to eligible participants.
The application period for the Rise Up Cambridge program will run from 1 June to 31 July. The approval of applications will be on a rolling basis.
Guaranteed Income Program Eligibility
To be eligible for the program, an applicant must reside in Cambridge, be at least 18 years old, and have at least one household member under 21. The household’s income must also be at or below 250 percent of the federal poverty level.
The minimum household income required for eligibility depends on the number of individuals living in the household. Two-person households, such as a mother and child, will be eligible if their annual income does not exceed $49,300, and three-person households will be eligible if their annual income does not exceed $62,150. The revenue limit increases marginally with each additional member of the household.
Cambridge, Massachusetts, has committed $22 million to finance the reimbursements designed to assist families with at least one child. Those selected for the program will receive $500 per month for 18 months, totaling $9,000 over the course of the program. There are no restrictions on how the recipients can use the funds.

Additional Funds
In addition to receiving monthly payments, recipients can earn additional funds by participating in surveys or writing about their program experiences. These surveys or documents will be voluntary, but those who complete them will be compensated for their participation.
The recipients are not required to disclose the money they receive from the monthly installments as taxable income. You can find additional information about this program on the Rise Up Cambridge website.
