Texas House Speaker Under Fire: Ken Paxton Demands Immediate Resignation for Presiding Under the Influence

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton urged Texas GOP House Speaker Dade Phelan to step down due to alleged intoxication while presiding.

Republican party member Paxton stated in an official post on Twitter that he had given his choice great thought and voiced his extreme sadness.

Ken Paxton Case Against Phelan

Phelan was required to retire, according to Paxton, because of his conduct, which he claimed violated his duties to the public. By observing Phelan’s subpar leadership of the Texas House, Paxton implied that Texans were discouraged.

Paxton went on to claim that Phelan’s actions had a negative effect on the legislative process and amounted to a failure on his part to uphold his obligation to the public.

Additionally, Paxton enumerated a set of critical conservative priorities that Texans expected Phelan to advance. Continuing his statement, Paxton stated that Phelan’s inadequacies as Speaker had generated a credibility crisis for all Republican candidates and the Party as a whole.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton urged Texas GOP House Speaker Dade Phelan to step down due to alleged intoxication while presiding.

Paxton said that Phelan had disproved his ability to lead the Texas House and expressed his hope that Phelan would seek the required assistance.

Following his written communication, Paxton made a formal request to the House Investigative Committee to initiate an investigation into Phelan’s alleged violation of House rules, state law, and conduct unbecoming his position.

On Friday, videos emerged showing Paxton displaying peculiar behavior while presiding over the House floor, exhibiting swaying movements and slurred speech to the extent of being incomprehensible. At the time, speculation was divided regarding whether Paxton was intoxicated or experiencing a stroke.

This incident marks the second national scandal involving the Texas House in a short span of time.

Earlier this month, former GOP Representative Bryan Slaton was expelled with a unanimous vote of 147-0 following an investigation that revealed his invitation of a 19-year-old intern to his condominium, where he provided her with alcohol until she reached a state of severe intoxication.

In that inebriated state, alleged sexual intercourse took place, and Slaton purportedly attempted to intimidate the intern and her acquaintances into silence regarding the affair.
