Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) finished his book tour, and his poll numbers plummeted, reaching a level comparable to conspiracy theorist RFK Jr.
In March 2023, there was a brief period where it seemed that the United States had two prominent Republican presidential contenders.
DeSantis Decrease In Poll Numbers
According to a recent survey conducted by Emerson College, which interviewed 500 highly likely voters in Kentucky’s Primary, it was revealed that former President Donald Trump maintains the majority of support at 70 percent, marking an 8-point increase since April from 62 percent.
Ron DeSantis follows with 14 percent, experiencing a notable 9-point decrease compared to last month, dropping from 23 percent to 14 percent.
Former Gov. Larry Hogan (R-MD) shared insights on DeSantis’ poor performance, highlighting that it sends a clear message to all Republicans that they too could enter the race.

Impact On Trump’s Path To Victory
Hogan stated, “Most of the candidates and potential candidates believed Gov. DeSantis had weaknesses and could be defeated. The fact that he has dropped in the polls has validated that belief and encouraged more individuals to join the race.”
The situation is such that if someone as prominent as DeSantis is only polling at 14 percent, anyone polling at 10 percent does not appear to be as much of a loser as initially thought.
However, the challenge for DeSantis lies in the increasing number of contenders entering the race, as it diminishes his likelihood of securing victory in the first three primary states.
The theory posits that the not Trump vote will be fragmented into four or five segments, ultimately aiding Trump in securing an easy victory. Already, former Gov. Asa Hutchinson (R-AR) has announced his candidacy, while Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) is expected to make his announcement next week.
Former Gov. Nikki Haley (R-SC) had also announced earlier this year, and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy made his announcement in February.
The Trump campaign is not hiding its intentions either. “To say we welcome Tim Scott to the race would be an understatement. Ron is set to announce his campaign next week, and he will find that it will be far more crowded than he initially anticipated,” revealed a confidant of Trump to The Messenger.
