President Joe Biden’s longtime aide Kate Berner, a top White House communications official, plans to step down from her position as principal deputy communications director.
According to Ben LaBolt, the White House communications director, it has been confirmed that Berner will leave in the upcoming weeks.
White House Campaign
LaBolt tweeted about Berner’s integral role in Biden’s communication operations for more than four years.
He highlighted her diligent work behind the scenes, such as simplifying complex policy processes, ensuring clarity and accuracy in the news shared, and managing a diverse team. LaBolt expressed that Berner’s departure will be deeply felt.
Berner was involved in Biden’s 2020 campaign and later joined the White House as a deputy communications director. She was subsequently promoted to the position of principal deputy communications director in August 2022.

The transition of Officials to the 2024 Campaign
This news aligns with a series of alterations occurring within the White House, as the administration prepares for Biden’s reelection campaign, resulting in certain officials transitioning to the 2024 campaign.
Julie Chavez Rodriguez, the director of Intergovernmental Affairs, was appointed by Biden as his campaign manager last month.
Several notable individuals, including Kate Bedingfield, the former communications director, who served alongside Biden for four years, have expressed admiration for Berner.
Bedingfield described Berner as exceptionally skilled and deserving of a period of relaxation and rejuvenation. She acknowledged Berner’s outstanding service to both the administration and the nation, expressing her desire for potential future collaboration involving Berner.
Chris Meagher, the assistant to the secretary of defense for public affairs, also commended Berner, highlighting her strong work ethic and characterizing her as intelligent, strategic, and decisive.
Meagher considered Berner a trustworthy confidant and partner, always available for guidance and collaborative thinking. While her absence will be felt within the organization, Meagher believes her influence will continue to be significant.
Currently, there is no official statement from the administration regarding Berner’s future or whether she will transition to Biden’s 2024 presidential campaign.
