Health Ministry ends mandatory isolation for COVID-19 patients

The Health Ministry stated that individuals who test positive for COVID-19 are no longer required to isolate (for five days).

However, the ministry has stated that COVID-19 is an infectious disease that poses a significant risk to vulnerable populations such as the elderly and individuals with weakened immune systems.

Home Isolation Recommendations for COVID-19

Individuals who are feeling unwell are advised to undergo testing. If a positive diagnosis of COVID-19 is received, it is recommended to remain at home until symptoms subside. If leaving home becomes necessary, it is important to avoid crowded areas and wear a mask.

The ministry also emphasizes that individuals who have not completed their vaccination should prioritize receiving their shots, particularly if they are part of a high-risk group.

According to Professor Hagai Levine, the head of the Israel Public Health Physicians Association, he expressed support for the removal of the isolation requirement. However, he noted that the Health Ministry does not prioritize adequately preparing and enhancing public health measures for future pandemics.

Together with an Israeli flag, pictures of the corona vaccine bottles and syringes are displayed. A considerable sum of money has been set aside for COVID-19, including testing, immunizations, and other measures.

Nevertheless, Levine asserts that individuals of all ages who have infectious diseases, ranging from the flu to shigella and others, should remain at home to prevent infecting others, particularly those who are at high risk.

Levine supports the idea of providing individuals with compensation from the moment they start staying at home, rather than delaying it until the third day. Additionally, he proposes enhancing the role of school nurses to encourage health education, similar to well-baby clinics.

Moreover, Levine proposes that municipalities and local authorities establish public health units to cater to their residents. Additionally, thorough investigations should be conducted to enhance our preparedness for future incidents.

Recalling an incident involving his mother who accompanied a friend to a hospital emergency room, Levine was uncertain about whether she should wear a mask. He advises caution in environments with ill individuals, as masks can reduce the risk of infection.

Levine provides guidance for situations in buses, trains, and other crowded places, recommending coughing into the back of one’s hand or the inside of the elbow. He also emphasizes the importance of regular handwashing with soap and water, particularly before eating and using the restroom.
