The next guaranteed income program in California is expected to begin in less than a month, with applicants receiving $500 monthly payouts.
California’s $800 billion plan for reparations could be at risk due to a significant budget shortfall.
How to be Eligible for Guaranteed Income Program?
The program participants will be provided with a debit card, onto which the city will load $500 every month.
This card can be used to pay for goods and services at any establishment that accepts debit cards. The city will also provide training to participants on how to effectively use the card.
To qualify for the program, the applicant must have been a single female head of household residing in El Monte with children under the age of 17, and have no spouse or partner living in the same household.
They had to demonstrate that their income was at or below the federal poverty line, provide evidence of a financial need due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and submit documents proving school enrollment, residency, income, and a government-issued identification card.

When Will Payment Be Made?
The year-long program is aimed at aiding mothers in El Monte, a city with a population of over 100,000. In April, 125 recipients were selected through a randomized lottery, and payments are expected to be disbursed on June 1.
This program is among the many guaranteed income initiatives in California, providing payments to its residents.
The Pathway to Income Equity pilot program in Sonoma County offers $500 per month to its recipients, and the next payment is scheduled for May 17. Another guaranteed income program that pays $800 per month will send out its next payment on May 15.
