Trump accused of deploying ‘democrat attacks’ on social security and medicare by Governor DeSantis

As he considered supporting Trump in the 2024 primary, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis accused former President Trump of using Democrat attacks against him due to his prior support for changes to entitlement systems.

The necessity to raise the Social Security eligibility age to 70 was discussed by Donald Trump himself in a book.

Trump Slams DeSantis for Social Security Retirement Age Increase

DeSantis has been under fire from Trump’s campaign for his support of a GOP budget proposal that would have increased the retirement age for Social Security benefits to 70 while he was a member of Congress.

The former President has stated that Republicans should not change the programs as the debate over the future of entitlement programs like Social Security and Medicare has re-ignited with the struggle over the debt ceiling in Washington.

According to a federal analysis released this year, Social Security’s trust funds would run dry by 2034, automatically reducing the amount of benefits that are paid out.

Republicans must be able to negotiate adjustments to the programs, according to DeSantis, who also criticized Trump for using Democrat strategies.

DeSantis supported budget resolutions that were not legally binding and that would have raised the eligibility age for seniors to receive federal benefits from 65 to 70.

As he considered supporting Trump in the 2024 primary, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) accused former President Trump of using Democrat attacks against him due to his prior support for changes to entitlement systems.

DeSantis’ remarks from his 2012 congressional campaign were examined by CNN KFile recently, and they revealed support for privatizing Social Security as well.

Former president Donald Trump has made support for Medicare and Social Security an early point of contention in the 2024 GOP presidential primary, prompting DeSantis’ attempt to openly reverse a stance fundamental to the fiscal conservatism that characterized his early political career.

Trump has singled out DeSantis, who is touring the nation to publicize his new book and boost his reputation before launching a hotly anticipated presidential candidacy.

DeSantis has mostly shied away from interacting with Trump and hasn’t previously responded when asked about his earlier stances.
