President Biden’s approval rating reaches all-time low at 36%

The most recent polling data puts Biden’s approval rating at 36%, which is his all-time low for any point during his presidency.

According to the same poll, Joe Biden performs poorly against prominent Republicans such as former President Donald Trump and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, both of whom he may face in 2024 if he seeks reelection. Biden performs particularly poorly against Trump.

DeSantis Leads Biden’s In Hypothetical Election

If Donald Trump and Joe Biden were the only two candidates on the ballot, 44% of those polled said they would definitely or probably vote for him, 38% for Joe Biden, and 12% were unsure.

In a similar contest, DeSantis leads Biden 42% to 37%, with 16% of voters still undecided.
Age appears to be a significant factor in how Americans view Biden in relation to the 2024 presidential election with 68% of those polled believing he is no longer eligible for a second term. 

In a similar vein, only 44% of Americans believe that Donald Trump, who is 76 years old, is too old to run for public office.

Biden’s 36% approval rating is not only his lowest, but it is also the lowest approval rating for a president at roughly the same point in his first term since Harry Truman. 

Biden also has the lowest approval rating among vice presidents at the same point in their first terms. Jimmy Carter’s approval rating in May of 1979 was 37%, while Donald Trump’s approval rating in April 2019 was 39%.

Despite this, Biden has a higher approval rating than Trump in a number of other polls.

The most recent Rasmussen Reports poll gives President Biden an approval rating of 51%, while the most recent YouGov poll gives President Obama an approval rating of 44%.

FiveThirtyEight estimates that President Joe Biden’s current approval rating is 42.6% based on a weighted average of the results of a number of polls. 

This is only a hair’s breadth higher than his all-time low FiveThirtyEight composite rating of 37.5% in July 2022.
