Here’s what You need to know about Your Social Security checks in May of 2023

Checks are issued by the Social Security Administration in multiple rounds spread out throughout the course of the month.

Some beneficiaries will receive theirs tomorrow, while others won’t see theirs until later in the month. Depending on your age and length of time as a Social Security recipient, the Social Security Administration will decide when to issue your payment.

What Will My May Social Security Check Be Worth?

Retirement and disability benefits, as well as death benefits for surviving spouses and dependent children, are provided by the Social Security Administration, as stated by AS.

How much a worker’s beneficiaries receive from Social Security depends on the worker’s Primary Insurance Amount and the date the worker initially filed for benefits.

Averaging out to $1,961 per month, as of January 2023, the Social Security Administration reports that the average monthly payment was a whopping $1,961.

  2. Cost for spouses of retirees to work: $899.20
  3. Retirees’ kids get $858.79
  • The Social Security death benefit for a survivor
  1. Dependents of workers who have passed away: $1,069.48
  2. $1,218.60 for parents who have been widowed
  3. Widow(er)s who are not disabled: $1,710.46
  4. Widow(er) with Disabilities: $893.54
  5. Deceased worker’s parents: $1,538.25

How Soon Will I Receive My May Social Security Payment?

When to expect your Social Security or Supplemental Security Income payment in May is outlined below (PDF):

  • May 3: Anyone receiving SSI and Social Security, or who began receiving Social Security benefits prior to May 1997, is eligible to receive Social Security payments.
  • May 10: Those who celebrate their birthday between January 1 and February 10 are eligible to receive their Social Security benefits early.
  • May 17: Those with a birthday between November 11th and December 20th are eligible to receive an extra payment from Social Security.
  • May 24: If your birthday is between the 21st and the 31st of the month, you may be eligible for a Social Security payout.
