Lockheed Martin secures $4.79 billion contract from US army for all-weather GMLRS Rockets

The US Army granted Lockheed Martin a $4.79 billion contract to manufacture two full-rate of GMLRS rockets and equipment.

The GMLRS is a fast-deployment, all-weather rocket that can deliver pinpoint attacks beyond the range of most conventional weapons. In 2021, the United States granted Lockheed Martin a contract for $1.12 billion to produce Lot 16 of the GMLRS rocket.

Range Capabilities Of GMLRS Rockets

The GMLRS from Lockheed Martin is a long-range, precise rocket system that may be used in any weather.

High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) launchers and the MLRS M270 series of launchers are both suitable for firing the rocket.

It can be deployed quickly, making it useful for expeditionary missions that need early or forcible entry.

The GMLRS can hit targets up to 70 kilometers (43 miles) away with its unitary and alternate warhead, and over 150 kilometers (93 miles) with its extended-range warhead.

The GPS-enhanced inertial navigation package and the nose-mounted tiny maneuvering canards increase its agility and precision while striking targets.

The organization claims that the sophistication of attacks necessitates a more adaptable and multipurpose approach to protection and deterrence.

It’s more important than ever to have the ability to launch an attack from a great distance. Contracts for GMLRS were given by the US Army for a total of $520.8 million in 2016, primarily to aid Ukraine and restock supplies.

Lockheed Martin has increased production from 6,000 rockets per year to 10,000 in response to the significant rise in demand.

Increasing production to 14,000 rockets annually is another goal the business is investigating.
