When the second half of 2023 rolls around, residents of Montana are scheduled to receive a Tax Rebate that could be worth up to $2,500.

Taxpayers in the state of Montana will receive a refund on their personal income taxes thanks to a bill signed into law in March by Republican governor Greg Gianforte.

To be eligible for this refund, a Montana resident must have been a resident of Montana for the entirety of the 2021 tax year beginning on January 1, 2021, and must have filed several documents by the 2021 tax filing deadline, including a Montana resident or part-year resident return for the year 2020 and a Montana resident tax return for the year 2021.

Recipients also need to have provided a number greater than zero on line 20 of their Montana Form 2 for 2021 and not be claimed as a dependent by another taxpayer.

The lower of (1) the income tax reported on line 20 of their 2021 Montana Form 2 or (2) $1,250 for single filers or $2,500 for married couples filing jointly will be the amount of the rebate, according to the Montana Department of Revenue.

The rebate will be paid out to qualified taxpayers via either direct deposit or a check in the mail using the most up-to-date contact information on file with the relevant government agency. The government will begin issuing the income tax refund in July and must complete the refunds by the end of the year.
