US Army Apache helicopters collide in Alaska, resulting in fatalities

A collision between two US Army helicopters returning from a training mission in Alaska claimed the lives of three troops and wounded a fourth.

This tragedy included military helicopters and was the second of its kind in the state.

Two passengers were aboard each of the two AH-64 Apache helicopters that were involved in the incident, according to John Pennell, a spokeswoman for the US Army Alaska.

The Army stated that the names of those murdered would not be released until family members were notified.

On the way back to Fort Wainwright, which is close to Fairbanks, the accident happened in Healy, Alaska. Investigating the cause of the collision.

Healy is roughly 250 miles north of Anchorage and about 10 miles north of Denali National Park and Preserve.

The helicopters were a component of the 1st Attack Reconnaissance Battalion, 25th Aviation Regiment at Fort Wainwright, according to a statement from Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Alaska.

The March crash of two US Army Black Hawk medical evacuation helicopters occurred about midnight, 30 miles northeast of Fort Campbell, Kentucky, and resulted in the deaths of nine personnel participating in the training exercise.

About 250 kilometers (about 155 miles) north of Anchorage, in a town called Healy, is Denali National Park and Preserve.

In the interior of Alaska, the village of Healy, which has 1,000 residents, is located along the Parks Highway.

It is a well-liked location for visitors to stay the night while exploring the neighboring park, which is home to Denali, the tallest mountain on the continent.

Healy is renowned for being the location of the former bus that was left abandoned in the wilderness and made popular by the book and film ‘Into the Wild.’

The bus was removed in 2020 and brought to Fairbanks.
