Although there are anecdotal accounts of some students switching universities, the timing of the decision—in June—restricted the number of students who could do so, particularly at selective colleges where the deadline for replying to an admissions offer is May 1.
This year marks the first time that student enrollment decisions will be made in the wake of the Supreme Court ruling and a discernible deterioration in the relationship between conservatives and liberals.
Results of Surveys Conducted by US College Students
According to a survey conducted by the Baltimore-based consulting firm Art & Science Group, college applicants would like to apply to universities in states that share their political viewpoints.
Students who identify as liberal, moderate, or conservative exhibit the same results.
The survey shows how more Americans are making state allegiance a factor in where they live and attend school.
Additionally, a study by Intelligent.com revealed that one in eight Florida high school graduates will not attend a public college there as a result of Republican Governor Ron DeSantis’s education policies, and 91 percent of prospective college students in Florida disagree with those policies.
The first step in understanding this research is determining its importance. For decades, the majority of college students attend a university in their native state.
Even states like California and Illinois, which have high out-of-state student migration rates, import students.

Institutions Need to Pay Attention for Student Market Strategy
The majority of all students, those who attend community colleges, remain local residents.
And while the Ivies, the Universities of California, Michigan, and Virginia, all of which receive a ton of applications from outside the state, receive a lot of news attention, they are not the rule.
Importantly, institutions will probably need to pay close attention to their unique and distinctive positioning as the regional student markets change in order to attract students in their market despite difficulties caused by state social policies.
