IRS supervisory special agent seeking whistleblower protection to report mishandling and political interference in the Hunter Biden criminal investigation.
The Wall Street Journal was the first to publish the letter, which claims that an IRS agent is supervising the ongoing and sensitive investigation of a high-profile and controversial subject, who has since been confirmed to be Hunter Biden by a source with knowledge of the situation.
Hunter Biden’s Legal Team And IRS Remain Silent
The IRS and Hunter Biden’s legal team both declined to comment. Additionally, the special agent asserts that he has information that contradicts Attorney General Merrick Garland’s sworn testimony before Congress.
The agent’s attorney mentioned this information in a letter to Congress, stating that one of his client’s protected disclosures contradicts the sworn testimony of a senior political appointee before Congress.
Thursday, the White House announced that the president has made it clear that the Justice Department will handle this matter independently” and that the investigation will be “free from any political interference by the White House.

House Republicans Investigate Biden Family Finances
At least since 2018, federal prosecutors have investigated the son of former President Joe Biden and considered filing tax and false statement charges against him. As of yet, no charges have been filed. In the interim, House Republicans have initiated investigations into the finances of the Biden family and the so-called “weaponization” of federal government agencies.
The IRS agent writes that he has evidence that contradicts the sworn testimony of a high-ranking political appointee before Congress, as well as examples of preferential treatment and politics improperly influencing decisions and protocols that would normally be followed by career law enforcement professionals if the subject were a career criminal.
Some IRS and FBI investigators and Justice Department prosecutors held differing views on the case’s strength during internal meetings held last year. Some Justice Department officials have expressed concerns about the sufficiency of the evidence, while some agents believe they have enough evidence to bring charges.
David Weiss, an appointee of President Trump who was retained to oversee the case, has the final say. After the midterm elections of 2012, investigators anticipated a decision on charges in December. The investigation continues, however. Weiss’s representative refused to comment.
The president has pledged not to interfere with the independence of the Justice Department.
