Alligator attack horror: Florida man’s leg bitten off at RV Park, foot found in reptile’s jaws

An alligator assault at an RV park in Brevard County is said to have caused a Florida man to lose part of his right leg.

After being bitten on Friday at the Great Outdoors RV and Golf Resort in Titusville, the 72-year-old victim lost his leg below the knee.

Attack Results in Florida Man Losing a Leg

According to Brevard County Fire Rescue (BCFR) officials, the man’s leg was torn off during the attack, which was reported to the police just before 2:00 pm. 

After the attack, the reptile dived back into the water, according to WKMG-TV.

Shortly after that, according to WESH, officers from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) and the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office discovered an alligator with a human foot protruding from its mouth.

The man was transported to the Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne for treatment. His condition is still unknown.

A request for a response from PEOPLE was not immediately answered by the FWC or Brevard County fire officials.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) said in a statement that a nuisance alligator trapper came to the location after the attack.

According to WKMG-TV and FOX affiliate WSVN, officials with the Florida Department of Fish and Wildlife have now captured and killed two alligators as a result of Friday’s attack.

 It is yet unknown which of the two alligators was responsible for the attack.

After some time had passed, an FWC officer was able to retrieve the victim’s foot and leg from the water.

A resident of the neighborhood, who spoke with WESH, alligators would lay on a bank approximately 15 feet between the home and the river.

According to the newspaper, he stated that the reptiles had been spotted under vehicles stored in nearby garages because they are moving from lake to lake during the mating season.
