The Social Security Administration sends out checks based on your date of birth and length of time as a recipient.

If you received benefits prior to May 1997 or both Social Security and SSI, the payment schedule is different.

Instead of receiving your payments on Wednesdays, you will now receive your benefits and SSI payments on the third and first of each month, respectively.

However, if the first or third day of the month falls on a weekend or holiday, the payment dates change. This year, April 1 falls on a Saturday, so SSI recipients receive their April payments on March 31 and recipients receive their payments on April 3.

If your check does not arrive by the above date based on your birth date or other circumstances, the SSA instructs you to wait three additional mailing days before contacting them.

If you still have not received it, call 800-771-1213 to speak with a representative. The SSA notes that wait times are shorter Wednesday through Friday and between 4 and 7 pm.on weekdays.
