The Justice Department formally requested a federal appeals court on Monday to stay an order from a US district court judge that delayed the FDA’s approval of the abortion pill, calling the ruling extraordinary and unprecedented.

Prominent Doctors’ Statements
Danco’s filing included affidavits from two famous doctors who have sworn under oath about the safety of mifepristone and warned that if the district court decision is allowed to stand, their patients will be irreparably harmed.
Dr. Courtney Schreiber, a professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Pennsylvania, makes one such statement.
She stated that due to their anatomy, some patients are unable to have a procedural abortion, the second technique of terminating a pregnancy, and that others may have to choose between having a re-traumatizing pelvic exam and procedure or carrying an unwanted pregnancy as a result of rape to term.
