The reckless driving of a 13-year-old boy killed a woman and injured ten others in a fiery three-car accident in California over the weekend.
An officer from the Woodland Police Department observed the teen driving erratically between College Street and Main Street in Sacramento on Saturday evening.
California Police’s Pursuit of Unidentified Teen
The officer attempted to stop the unidentified teen, but the teen fled and crashed into two vehicles at the intersection of College and Court Streets, according to police.
A video of the gruesome aftermath shows one of the cars ablaze beneath another as first responders rush to assist the victims. A second vehicle caught fire as a result of the collision.
Officials reported that one woman died as a result of the collision and that three of the ten people injured were minors. A child of three years old was transported by helicopter to the hospital.
Possible Charges
Reporters at the scene were told by Sgt. Victoria Danzl of the Woodland Police Department that the teen suspect had taken the Honda Pilot that he was driving without permission from a family member.
Danzl said, “Unfortunately, children are young and do not recognize that their actions have repercussions.” Unfortunately, today’s event was quite important.
Danzl remarked that the officer’s pursuit was brief and that it was not anticipated that the teen would flee when police initially attempted to stop him.
The suspect was apprehended at the scene of the collision and then transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of his injuries. The boy could be charged with vehicular manslaughter, according to the police.
They did not reveal the condition of the driver or any of the other people who were injured in the accident. Local residents were shaken by the accident, which occurred in a 25 mph zone in a commercial area.
The California Highway Patrol, which is in charge of leading the investigation, did not respond immediately to a request for comment from The Post.
