Vocal cloning is the use of artificial intelligence technologies to create an artificial simulation of a person’s voice. Since that a con artist only needs a small quantity of recorded speech to clone your voice, they can quickly steal it and exploit it for their own purposes.
This can be accomplished by cybercriminals calling you. If you answer a robocall and chat with a con artist, they can utilize a recording of your voice to imitate you. When many of you upload videos of yourselves to Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, they can also access your voice through social media.
Once they have a voice, they can contact a relative or acquaintance of the person whose voice they stole and impersonate them. So, the person on the other line will be more willing to share money or other personal information over the phone if they believe it is a known contact.

How To Avoid Being A Victim?
One technique to achieve this is to never answer a call from an unknown number. Spam calls are the ideal method for hackers to obtain your voice, as they only need to keep you on the line for a few minutes.
Consider removing your personalized voicemail from your cell phone and replacing it with a system greeting or default welcome message so that scammers cannot take your voice from your voicemail and use it in a voice-cloning scam.
Lastly, if you receive a phone call from someone requesting money, even if it sounds like someone you know, you should not trust it. Particularly if your “loved one” is calling from a number you do not recognize. Instead of continuing the call, dial their home or cell phone number.
By taking these precautions, you can reduce your likelihood of falling for a voice cloning fraud. Keep in mind that if something appears suspect or too good to be true, it generally is.
