Ohio college student announced on $750,000 bond after reportedly killing teen in convenience store parking lot

Halia Culbertson, 17 years old, was fatally stabbed in Ohio on Sunday night. The 18-year-old who murdered her is free on bond.

According to the Columbus Division of Police, the incident occurred in a neighborhood far northeastern Columbus, Ohio. The officers arrived at 11:48 that night. The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to her solitary wound shortly afterward.

College Student Kills Teen

The police report that Bryanna Barozzini admitted to swinging a knife at the victim during a fight. The defendant is currently charged with a single count of murder under Ohio law, according to court documents reviewed by Law&Crime.

Barozzini was arraigned in Franklin County Municipal Court on Tuesday. The terms of the $750,085 bond she posted on Tuesday prohibit her from communicating with the victim’s family. Barozzini is prohibited from entering the crime scene and has no firearms, ammunition, or other weapons in his possession.

The alleged altercation reportedly occurred at 161 Carryout, a convenience store and tobacco shop, according to the newspaper. According to witnesses and surveillance footage, the incident reportedly began inside before spreading to the parking lot.

Ohio Judge Expects Self-Defense Talks To Continue

Later, Barozzini was located at her residence in the relatively affluent Columbus suburb of Westerville. The Columbus Dispatch reported that the younger girl died at 12:24 a.m. on Monday at OhioHealth Riverside Medical Center.

This week, the defendant’s attorney told the judge that there will be discussions about self-defense as the case progresses, but he would not elaborate.

Barozzini attended Westerville North High School before enrolling at Columbus State. On Tuesday, her attorney emphasized that she has been cooperative with law enforcement and mentioned her lack of a criminal record.
