A Twitter user claims that ChatGPT saved his dog’s life by correctly detecting a blood condition that veterinarians were unable to identify.
On their account @peakcooper, the user who goes by Cooper said that their Border Collie named Sassy had been identified as having a tick-borne illness, but that the symptoms had gotten worse despite receiving the recommended medication.
ChatGPT Diagnoses What Doctors Can’t?
Cooper took Sassy back to the doctor, but they were unable to make any additional diagnoses and said that the best course of action was to watch how the dog’s health developed.
Cooper made the decision to attempt entering Sassy’s bloodwork into ChatGPT4 and asking the computer for its diagnosis rather than putting her health in danger. The AI chatbot acknowledged that it wasn’t a vet but said that the dog’s blood results and symptoms might point to immune-mediated hemolytic anemia (IMHA).
The second veterinarian, he claimed, validated his prediction and started treating the dog accordingly after hearing it. Sassy has since fully recovered, according to Cooper, who also said that ChatGPT4 “saved my dog’s life.”
When the doctor finally gave up, according to Cooper, he started taking Sassy to other veterinarians for advice before the thought occurred to him that ChatGPT might be the best tool for making a diagnosis.
ChatGPT is an AI algorithm that searches the internet for data and compiles it into a communicable format. It would have taken Cooper’s information and compared it to the many medical resources on the internet, returning the best match in order to establish a potential diagnosis.
He claimed to have carefully entered Sassy’s bloodwork results into the program and queried it for a diagnosis. The program responded by stating that it was not a veterinarian and advising Cooper to consult a professional, but it still offered a diagnosis.
